SOPA & PIPA – Day Of Action

Posted on by Guy

If you’ve spent anytime online today it’s very likely you will have come across the acronyms SOPA  (Stop Online Piracy Act) & PIPA (Protect IP Act). Today thousands of websites went ‘dark’ in protest of these Acts. SOPA is the one that is getting the most attention as it’s a bill that is designed to protect against copyright violations but in actual fact could very well end up negatively affecting your experience of the web itself.

Many websites are protesting the bills with Wikipedia, Reddit and Twitpic blacking out completely. The likes of Google & Huffington Post have made other gestures of protest while interestingly Facebook & Twitter seem to have passed on the protest all together.

For a full rundown of what SOPA and PIPA could mean for your future web experience check out this explanation on The Guardian’s website (which is not dark!).
